Q: What's the difference between an engineer, a producer and a programmer?
A: An Engineer is responsible for how the record sounds sonically, such as if the snare is the right sound , the balance of instruments, the bass and the treble, where the mics are set up and making sure that everything works correctly when the finger hits record.
A: A Producer understands the engineering aspect of a record but also contributes musical ideas such as 'do you really need the dub harpjaw solo?' or 'is the first verse really supposed to be nine minutes longer than the first?'. A Producer often acts as the extra member of a band during a recording, translating your creativity into a professional product by offering tried and trusted techniques or suggesting all sorts of creative possibilities to ensure your music sounds unique and professional. As a rule Producers tend to be accomplished engineers before they become Producers.
A: A Programmer is responsible for building music utilising the digital workstation, for example creating drum beats, bass lines, synthesis etc.
